Tom Fulp Interview

2009-03-08 18:54:56 by dillgray

I posted the interview on the forums page but here it is if u cant find it.

i did an interview with Tom Fulp. i will be doing more interviews with other artists in the future. Plz give advice and feedback. Thx :)

1. How did your childhood affect the way you are today?

I had a good rural upbringing with good values, so I like to think I'm a good person as a result. Despite my life not having any real problems, I was still a very shy kid with a lot of anxiety. I wasn't as social as I wish I had been, but I try to correct that now and keep myself from being too much of a recluse. I was also really into video games and sent letters and ideas to companies I liked. It was always great when they wrote back, so I try my best to do the same for people to this day. I want to make people happy the way other creative people have made me happy throughout my life.

2. What is your favorite color?

I'm never 100% sure but it might be orange. It really depends on what the color is in relation to. For clothing, I tend to wear dark blue.

3. How is your marriage with April going?

Marriage is great! We're soul-mates. :)

4. Do you two have any kids?

We have a baby on the way, it's due this month!

5. Does she help with the site and the Meet Ups?

April hasn't really gotten involved in the meetups, but she hangs out sometimes when NG folks like Luis and Swain are in town. She is my rock to lean on when running a business stresses me out, and she solved a programming problem I was having once, she's a programmer too. :)

6. What does she do for a living?

She's a web programmer. She does the sort of stuff that Liljim and Rob do, but on a Windows platform instead of Linux.

7. Do you still talk to your friends that helped you with the site when it first started?

I still see Ross when he's in town, he programmed the original user system and Flash Portal, laying the foundation for modern-day Newgrounds. Most of the people who helped over the years are either still part of the company, or web friends who still hang out around the site.

8. How is your friendship Dan Paladin?

It's good! We have a lot of laughs and party hard when we're together, but he lives in San Diego so I don't see him a whole lot. We're on AIM though.

9. Do you two have any plans for future console games from The Behemoth?

Dan is doing art for a new game but I'm not programming it. We have ideas for console games we could make in the future but we may or may not make a web game before that happens. Console games take a long time to make so I've been non-commital about programming another one in the near future.

10. Is The Behemoth planning to make games for the Wii or PS3?

We are open to all consoles.

11. Do you have any plans for future videos or games you plan on making for NG?

I have several games in the works for NG so hopefully I'll finish one of them soonish.

12. Are you planning to make Pico 2?

I still hope to tackle Pico 2 one day... I keep overhauling it as times change. I want it to be super-relevant and it would have been if I released it years ago, but I sorta missed that boat so I need to rethink some things.

13. What is your IQ?

Three points shy of getting into the "gifted" program in school, which always irked me.

14. What is your yearly income?

Probably not nearly as much as most people think but still good.

15. What future plans do you have for the store?

We have a Pico set in mid-production but it's on hold until it becomes more... economically feasible. Basically we need to sell more stuff so we can invest in more upscale products. But until then... More shirts and whatever fun things we come up with.

16. What future plans do you have for NG Magazine?

Web-based, we plan to bring back a lot of the NG Mag features as part of the Writers Portal and a new Alphas section that is integrated more with the Flash Portal. Off-line, we still hope to do a print magazine some day. It's been a long-time dream for the site, but we don't want to spread ourselves too thin right now.

17. Do you have ideas for future Meet Ups places?

I want to have a lot more local meetups in the Philly area. As far as other meetups, there is a Beer Festival meetup in Denver this fall.

18. Do you plan to have a Meet Up in NYC? (cause i live by there)

We will probably do more conventions in NYC, no current plans for a meetup beyond conventions but it's possible.

19. How is your friendship with Luis?

We have always been web friends but we meet up more and more in the real world due to the growing number of meetups. He's an awesome guy and fun to party with.

20. What plans do you have for NG in general?

I stay pretty quiet about long-term plans because it takes us so long to get things done... But near future features include the Art Portal, Writers Portal, mystery Portal, voice actors in Audio Portal, Chat, Multiplayer, mystery API upgrades, etc....

Plz comment.

BTW its all legit
